Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP): Office of Student Success: Common Tools, Technologies, and Processes
The IUP Office of Student Success developed an initiative to create a virtual course on D2L Brightspace designed specifically for faculty and staff. This course provides comprehensive resources to help university personnel navigate the MyIUP portal, use student advising tools, connect students with a Navigator*, design their own D2L courses, and document notes on students. It includes a variety of tutorial videos, tools, and helpful links as visual aids to enhance learning.
I collaborated with the Student Success Office by producing tutorial videos, adding relevant content, and organizing the course structure to ensure it was accessible and user-friendly for all faculty and staff members.
*Eighteen employees, known as Navigators, will provide personalized support to every IUP student, regardless of level, program, or location. They’ll actively reach out, help resolve issues, remove obstacles, and answer questions using data and tools provided by the Student Success Infrastructure. While focusing on individual needs, Navigators will also follow a communication plan with scheduled check-ins and outreach to ensure ongoing support.

The mission of the Student Success Infrastructure is clear and direct: to help each and every student at IUP persist while providing the highest quality academic and personal experience possible, from pre-enrollment through program completion. SSI will combine in-person and online proactive, direct, and individualized support with technology and centralization of ongoing efforts. It will eliminate duplicate efforts to streamline the student experience while recognizing each student’s unique strengths and challenges. Eliminating duplication and standardizing student support processes will also reduce and simplify the work of departments and offices across the university.

In addition to designing the D2L Brightspace course, I was also tasked with creating a graphic and poster for the Office of Student Success. These materials are intended for use in presentations, posters, and other media. The graphic serves as a visual representation of the Student Success Infrastructure, illustrating how key components—such as IUP staff, faculty, the advising center, and university tools and technologies—connect to each student's assigned Navigator. The Navigator is central to this system, acting as the main point of contact for students throughout their college journey. Students can rely on their Navigator for support with advising, financial aid, campus resources, and connecting with staff and faculty.
